  • Pink Dot Sg

Pink Dot Sg is a non-profit movement started by a group of individuals who care deeply about the place that LGBT Singaporeans call home. Pink because it’s a blend of red and white – the colour of Singapore’s national flag. Also, it is the colour of our national identification cards. More importantly, Pink Dot Sg stands for a Singapore in which all Singaporeans, regardless of their sexual orientation, are free to love and be loved.

“Everyone should have the freedom to love, regardless of sexual orientation. But fear, ignorance and prejudice often stand in the way. At PinkDot, we believe the first step to overcoming these barriers is for open-minded segments of society to come together. That’s why we’re providing this platform for individuals, organisations and businesses to identify themselves as advocates of a more inclusive, more loving Singapore. If you too feel that LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) people deserve to express their love just like any other Singaporean, please join us on Facebook. Together, we can find ways to let the freedom to love prevail.”

There will be an event held for all Singaporeans.

Date and time: May 16 (Sat), 4.30pm
    Venue: Hong Lim Park, Singapore
What to wear: Pink (caps, hats, glasses, sunglasses, accessories are recommended)
What to bring: Anyone who supports the freedom of LGBT Singaporeans to love.
What to expect: Pink umbrellas will be provided with a donation; the human pink dot will be formed by around 5pm and a photograph will be taken from a vantage point nearby.

This is NOT a protest nor a parade, just a simple call for open-minded Singaporeans to come together to form a pink dot, of which aerial photographs will be taken. This pink dot is a celebration of diversity and equality, and a symbol of Singapore’s more inclusive future.

No registration is required for this 100% legal event.

so far i have nothing to be proud/endorse/approve/whatever of gays. i’m not saying all of gays

yes sure, you can be gay, but show some respect for yourself, not go around “ee yeerrr, you know hor i blah blah blah” and yes i checked my schoolmate’s FB, and he said his gay. and i thought he was just crazy and joking when he touched guys around.

when i found out some not-so-close-friend became a tranny, i was shocked by how ugly he became. and he thought he was pretty cute.

i have met lesbians and are nice people, though i can’t date them i guess.

ultimately u can be what you wish to be, but just don’t exaggerate it out, if you’re gay then just be it, don’t show it to others publicly “OH HEY IM GAY WOO HOOO” in front of dozens of people in sch, it sickens me when u start talking to me, and it makes me puke when i thought u were joking.

Do you even have any idea what this movement is about? It’s not about shamelessly going around proclaiming your sexual orientation, it’s about having the FREEDOM TO LOVE, to create a more INCLUSIVE and more LOVING Singapore. Please go google those words if you don’t know.

And if you must spread your ignorance, please do it elsewhere. Oh nvm, I reckon you’re perfect entertainment and Cowboy Caleb would like that.

Apologies to Cowboy Caleb for the above presumption. :)

    har?

gathering many many in one place in pink color =
it’s about having the FREEDOM TO LOVE, to create a more INCLUSIVE and more LOVING Singapore

    ?

No, “gathering many many in one place in pink color” does not equal to
“it’s about having the FREEDOM TO LOVE, to create a more INCLUSIVE and more LOVING Singapore”

“Gathering many many in one place in pink color”, is only a symbol to demonstrate that Singaporeans need to be AWARE of such issues, spread some love and respect instead of more discrimination and hate, that people should have the FREEDOM TO LOVE, and we need to create a more INCLUSIVE and more LOVING Singapore. It takes way more than just gathering in pink in one park to achieve those ideals.

    Hope that answers your question.

And I apologise to Yongwei92 for being pissed off and bumptious. It’s okay to not know, because that’s what this whole movement’s about.

speaking up for my fellow PLUs to the none-PLUs, there’re gays + lesbians + trans etc who are disgusting.

as much as the straights who always have their hands over uninviting girls, and think they’re hamsen + smart + rich.

and i eschew both groups of people in complete apprehension.

    =)

To Hamie: To me, you’re a disgrace to human civilization and you have no right to generalize and speak up for other people. :)

hey chill deb! i think you misunderstood hamie! he meant that inconformity to social norms (or ‘weird’ people) is not limited to PLUs, as there are equally peculiar straight people. i dont think he meant any disrespect.

i personally embrace diversity, for it is what makes life dynamic and all the more interesting :)

To Hamie and Ric: hahaha I’m really sorry for the misunderstanding. Guess I was blinded by prejudice and anger because of a mere word- “disgusting”. Ric, thanks for pointing that out. But I still believe that noone should speak up for others- PLUs or non-PLUs alike. And if you think that I’m wrong you should always respond, never “shut up and sit down”. :)

Also, declaring on others that they’re “a disgrace to human civilization” was really stupid and egoistic. Thanks!

i don’t fight a war tat has no meaning and gives no result, for this case, a cyberspace one. i won’t shut up and sit down, i’ll just walk away.

bcos this space belongs to Cowboy, it’s only polite in my part not to shit his place becos of anyone. i’ll leave a comment if i feel strongly for any topic but i’ll leave it if any personal attack comes from another fellow commentor.

life has more meaning than to fight with someone i dunno and not even see before. and for just a conversation topic?

    hahahahahahahahahaha…….

life really has more than just tat.

This is not about cyberspace war. It’s pointless. It was wrong of me to make a personal attack and I apologise for that.

However, by telling others what you feel is wrong is letting others know their mistakes and allowing them reflect on their actions. Maybe you don’t care a shit, but that’s probably how the world gets better- when people point out mistakes and learn from others. If everybody just walks away and gives no shit, must well be stagnant robots. That’s my opinion.

    Anywho, that’s your choice.

yongwei92, I’d like to address the comment that you made although not in the form of a personal attack. In some aspects, your live and let live attitude is commendable. In other aspects, it shows how deep-seated discrimination is. The whole idea is that people regardless of their sexual orientation, is deserving of equal respect and equality. The idea is that people should dare to be themselves in front of others without feeling ashamed because of some invisible transgression that the “mainstream” community felt that they have “committed”. I am a straight girl. I’m lucky to be straight in that I do not have to struggle with my identity clashing with “mainstream social values” and religion telling me what’s right/ good and what’s wrong. I’m lucky in that something as fundamental as sexual orientation happens to be socially accepted. Haven’t you ever put yourself in the shoes of other people, where you’re made to feel wrong about something you haven’t decided and can’t change?
Our identity as Man, Woman, Masculine, Feminine. Father, Mother Child are socially constructed – they are social roles that we play. As a girl, I can be Daughter, Woman, Mother, Wife, Girlfriend variously. Telling the gay community is be underground and remain silent is to continue to deny them respect and equality that we accord to all human beings.
