  • Damn, That Is Some Evil Shite

I met up with a good pal today for lunch. So he quit his very cool job at a very cool company and I was puzzled.

Apparently, he found out (accidentally) that all employee email were on auto-forward to the boss – without their knowledge. When aforementioned boss was confronted, he saw nothing wrong with it.

Now that is some unethical high-handedness.

How many of us have caught our bosses doing something unethical and dared to stand up to him?

i got 1 friend who faced this scenario before. the emails were forwarded to another company account which only 2 colleagues had the password only. scary shite. it just reflects how little trust the company has for their employees.

Man, that’s so wrong! But it was really brave of him to quit his job because of that. Also, a cool company wouldn’t do something like that so I don’t think you should say his ex-company is cool!

I thought this was common practice…the company I work for does that (HR screens the mails for any suspicious stuff). Anyone who would use company e-mail to send sensitive material is stoopid anyways.

Two people got busted when they quit and were scheming on stealing company belongings and talked about it in the e-mails they sent each other. DOH!

I don’t see a problem with that. It is a common policy that all work emails is owned by the company, so they have the right to review those emails.

it is stupid to send personal mail via work email.

At my workplace, our msn is logged. But then again, if they can be bothered to look through all those msn conversations (each person has at least 5 windows opened at any one time, I assure you), then I’ve got nothing to say.

It’s okay to archive all email, because in the event something happens then can always go look.

But to read your employee’s email for no reason at all on a regular basis… that is not ethical.

sadly, trust is an innate deficiency in most human beings.

Well, the boss may have his right to ensure his workers do not use the company’s resources to do anything harmful or illegal.

The employee can always use his private email but if that is also being monitored, then that will be a real breach of privacy.

In my company, this is the case also.

business comes first, if someone loses a piece of business because they are negligient to inform the boss of pertinent matters, it is not the employee who suffers as well. corporate reputation, service to clients (and the client’s clients) matters as well.

it cannot be a matter of ethics, everyone already should know that corporate email is for corporate work, so there really isn’t an invasion of privacy when there is no expectation of any.
