Goodnight Joe
In late September, I blogged about how my elderly uncle Joe had been abandoned at the side of the road, caused a disturbance in a hotel, got arrested and was hospitalized.
3 weeks after being admitted to hospital, the doctors discovered that Joe was infected with tuberculosis. He was then transfered to an isolated ward to be with other tuberculosis patients. After a few weeks there, the doctor informed us that his illness was not contagious as long as he took his medicine.
The day before I left for China, I visited Joe. He was rather depressed. His bed was filthy as he had shat his bed, and the hospital policy was only to change the sheets once in the morning. His terrible living conditions would probably be detrimental to his recovery, so I went with my brother-in-law and located a nursing home that would be willing to take Joe in immediately.
Unfortunately, Joe would never get to enjoy the comforts of a nursing home.
This morning at 4.50am, Joe passed away.
The doctors say his tuberculosis did him in. If that is the case, why did they tell us that Joe had recovered to the point that he could be taken home?
I have lost all faith in Malaysian govenment hospitals.
Anyway, I can’t return home from China to take care of Joe’s funeral details, and my brother-in-law is also travelling. So my wife and my sister-in-law have to handle everything.
