Daphne Maia, what have you done?

there was really a stark contrast in the group that attended. This group was the boisterous group, the eloquent group, the popular group on Ping.sg. Yes, there really is such a thing as the “in group”, as in all other communities - I don’t deny that.

I’m so disappointed. As community manager, you shouldn’t have made the distinction between an ‘in’ and ‘out’ group within the Ping.sg community. Yes, that’s right - there’s only one way to interpret your careless blogging remarks - DK’s intepretation.

As a self-professed HR professional, you should have known that the best way to minimize the damage was to publicly apologize and confess that you screwed up big time.

Instead you let things get out of hand. Flame wars ensued and DK got banned.

    DK got banned!!!

I don’t have to be part of the Ping.sg community to know that DK has been an integral part of the community since the inception of Ping.sg. In fact, when I think of DK, I think of Ping.sg. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a DK fan, in fact I think he runs a boring pretentious nerdy blog.

As a founding editor of Tomorrow.sg, I have been rooting for Ping.sg all this while (despite weak traffic) to eventually succeed the Tomorrow.sg experiment as the site that finally get Singaporeans to effectively decide for themselves what they should read. But somehow along the way, you’ve made Ping.sg lose the plot.

So as community manager of Ping.sg, I’d have to say maybe you want to go look in the mirror and reflect upon what your actions and subsequent inactions has done to Ping.sg - why hide behind the terrifying and awesome powers of Pig.sg founder Uzyn? You just make him look like a corrupt despot protecting his cronies.

You have zero credibility in my eyes now, and I don’t think I am alone.

What have you done, Daphne Maia?

    Catfight! catfight!

Daphne, please threaten to sue CC!
CC, please put up an “apology”!
Daphne, please accept the “apology” and withdraw threat of lawsuit, and the write the two of you “big” bloggers are on the SAME level and could have hung out together, giving each other toe massages.
CC, please deny “apology” and the rip into Daphne some more!

    Yeah! Yeah, baby!

This boring pretentious nerd here doesn’t normally read your entries - especially those which links somewhere else.

But when you do write something I sit up and take notice. :)

One is a sensitive insecure individual who says that there isn’t an ‘in’ or ‘out’ group but sounds alot like hes whinning to be in the “in” group.

Second is a girl who never seemed outgrow high school trends.

    Execute em both.

they may be plenty of internal strife but you can be sure that most, if not all of these plurkers, pingsters, tomorrow-ers, nuffnang-ers and whathaveyou aren’t even remotely good-looking. christ, singapore is so full of ugly attention-seekers.

anonymous - and yes, I’m sure the gist of it is that they only have the right to do anything if they are good looking… and they can only seek attention if they are good looking?

where did looks even come in? duh.

And if what you said of them is true, you yourself must be one heck ugly son of a bitch to even further hide beyond “anonymous”.

rn: You must be pretty ugly yourself too. But it’s OK. Personality counts. From your comment, you have gobs of endearing personality. Kudos and congratulations, you are on your way to lots of win!

there was no flame war on daphne’s end. only on DK’s end. she never retaliated because she doesn’t deem it necessary to show the world what a liar he is.

and she never mentioned an ‘out’ group. it’s not all black and white, in or out. why uzyn banned him has nothing at all to do with daphne.

Joe - actually you’re right, I am an ugly bitch… but I’ve never denied it and don’t go around saying people are ugly attention-seekers. Actually I don’t have much personality too. I’m a pathetic nerd that stays online way too much because I have no friends and no life. But I’ve never denied it either. =)

Have fun trying to get a flame war started here. Don’t think cowboy will jump in.

Who wants to engage me in a discussion of socio-mechanisms of trying to sound cool to be ‘In’, versus individuality need to be as asshole?

    How about you, Joe?

rn: There, there, that’s OK. Why would CC jump in. I thought this was between anonymous and you, where you implied he is an “one heck ugly son of a bitch”. It’s cool though that you can ask someone not to be judgemental and yet can see someone through the intahwebs with your nerd powers. Congrats again!

J - really? I’ll take your word for it, mate. I can’t see through the intahwebs like people can.

DPL: Sure, bro. Let’s start with the use of the word “socio-mechanism” when a simpler word would suffice, especially for powderful England-challenged people like me, in order to subtly exert linguistic and hence moral superiority with loaded questions.

The more apt discussion would be on the irony of whether one should insult another person for insulting, or in another analogy, to visit verbal violence on another for the crime of verbal violence.

In any case, you have to FIRST clarify your premise of “individuality need to be as asshole” somewhat in order to continue. Grammatical-accuracy aside, perhaps you are referring to how people might use certain phrases to be accepted by a clique, or conversely, to use certain phrases in order to be an irritant to the clique?

Why is this such a controversy? Are the comments this girl made that schismatic?

Ping.sg is just one of many blogging tools on the internet that serve to keep a self promoting community in existence by pretending everyone can be part of an egalitarian system. But the reality is that nothing about those sites is egalitarian. There are digital landlords that oversee serfs who harvest attention as a commodity. Occasionally the serfs get fifteen minutes of fame, but most of the attention goes to the “Community Leaders,” a position out of reach for all but those with the right friends.

There are only a few ways to make your blog popular.

There’s a small number of bloggers that earn their popularity. These are people who freakishly and compulsively post, gaming the search engines and the social networks. What they write is worthless, but people seem to click on them anyway.

There’s another big chunk of people who are part of an “in group” that support the work of one another. I strongly suspect Daphne fancies herself part of this crew, and I think that she is probably correct. You should praise her for her honesty. If dishonesty is an inherent part of being a “Community Manager” then the position should be abolished.

Very, very few blogs rise to the top (popularity, page rank, promotional offers) through legitimate means- talent, creativity, and continuous posting.
