How I Spent My Weekend

This weekend was spent at home. I flew in on Friday and then flew back out to China on Monday (for wuck). Here is what I did.

Friday 5.30pm - Arrive at Changi Airport from Guangzhou. Quite a bad flight due to bad weather caused by Typhoon Fengshen. Wife picks me up. Fight with wife. End up watching “You Dont Mess With The Zohan” before driving home.

Saturday 10am - Wake up. Discover wife’s uncle is in hospital with prostrate cancer. Hospital is in Malacca which is 200km away. Drive 200km to Malacca and arrive at about 3pm. Make small talk. Think he’ll live if they operate asap.

Saturday 4pm - Aunt calls to tell me that tonight is my Grandad’s birthday dinner (WTF?) and also Grandmother was hospitalized last week for appendicitis and a kidney stone but we didn’t tell you because you were away btw. Leave hospital for nearest Coffee Bean where I purchase a huge cappuccino followed by a double cheeseburger at McDonalds. Drive back home (another 200km) while munching on aforementioned cheeseburger and sipping on the caffeine.

Saturday 7.45pm - After driving like a madman, I arrive at the restaurant for my Grandad’s birthday dinner and find everybody looking rather glum. Apparently my brother has just had a car accident somewhere.

Sunday 10am - Wake up and drive out for a hair cut. I know I’ve been away too long by the length of my hair. My hairstylist is not amused when I try to tell him how funny I found “You Dont Mess With The Zohan”.

Sunday 1pm - Lunch at a Korean/Japanese restaurant with my parents.

Sunday 2.30pm - Inspect my new house to discover that the plumbing and electrical wiring in the bathrooms are crazy. Called to complain. The plumber blames the electrician blames the engineer blames the plumber. Dumb ass’s. All of them.

Sunday 5pm - Bought a new bed. Cost me a few fucking thousand dollars. Dammit. Why do they got to make such expensive beds?

Sunday 7pm - Dinner with parents at Deli France, which is really awful in Malaysia. We all came to the concensus that Deli France in Malaysia should be renamed Deli Zimbabwe or Deli Myanmar or something.

Sunday 8pm - Brother is supposed to start a 6 month internship at an accounting firm next week. So I brought him shopping for work clothes at Dockers. Also bought shoes, socks and a few striped shirts. I hope he cuts his hair though. All the smart clothes in the world isn’t going to count for nuts if he reports for work with those dreadlocks. Plus, I spent a bomb on his new threads.

I thought half of all Singaporeans are Malaysians. And all Singaporeans were Malayans. Discounting the new arrivals.

spiller: because people who still go to Sushi King and Pizza Hut instead of real Japanese joints and real pizza restaurants still go to Deli France.

The meals and shopping don’t sound cheap too..

Wow… and all within 2 days…

eventful weekend- meals wedged between driving sessions. hope the folks who were ill/had accident are all okay.

it’s ironic how sometimes after a bloody long week at work, you plan to do nothing, to unwind over the weekend and find yourself having to go into overdrive in order to get over the weekend, only to be sapped by work the following week.

Why not just live in China? Seems a long way to commute?
