Singapore Students Fail at Road Names… In Mandarin

Sent from the mobile phonecam of cowboycaleb.

Am at the hair saloon where I’m watching some variety show on channel 8 that is quizzing a bunch of secondary school students that all look like they belong in a MENSA zoo.

Unfortunately when they were given road names in mandarin, they couldn’t identify which were real and which were made up.

One girl gave her reason for ignorance as “road names in Singapore are our colonial legacy so nobody evar uses the Chinese names”.

“reason”? you mean “excuse”, right?

Wow! Just think the kind of excuses they will come up with when the grow older!

But then again, I’m still confused about the 大坡,小坡 and 坡底 and which Engrish name each corresponds to.

I think someone should point out the fact that our colonial masters were ENGLISH.

So whats that got to do with their legacy affecting our lack of use of the Mandarin names?

Am confused. =P
