  • Is Adverlet’s Online Football Betting Campaign Legal?

I’ve learned from Jialat.com that Adverlets is currently running a campaign for Ascorts, a Phillipines-based online football betting site.

Adverlet’s has indeed announced that this campaign will run for China, Malaysia and Singapore.

AscotSports would like to let you in on the action, and are offering a sponsored posting opportunity for Advertlets bloggers to help get the word out about their service. Read more below for details! Also of note: We are also running banner campaigns across the entire Malaysia, Singapore & China network for this, but it is opt in only, only bloggers that are keen on this genre of ads will be included. For those keen to opt in for gambling/betting/sportsbook based ads, please make sure to update your ad genre preferences in your Advertlets account.

Adverlets is even going to have sponsored blog posts for Ascorts.

While this is very exciting, some questions come to mind - Isn’t online gambling illegal in all of those three countries?

I know it’s most definitely illegal in Singapore and most of the online bookies have not been accepting Singapore credit cards since 2002. Same thing for Malaysia as well. And the communist party in China has most definitely has identified gambling as a social ill.

    Does anybody have any idea?

Advertlets never check for any law against promoting online betting.
AscotSports never check if their target audience not being able to use the service they provide.
The gahmens prolly missed out the regulations for new media.

Smells like another online saga brewing leh.

    Maybe…
SG Gahmen will slap a fine on Advertlets one way or another, then other 2 gahmens follow suit.
Nuffnang then capitalises on the shit and gets cocky because its competitor gets into deep shit.
Bloggers have a field day from the saga and flood ping.sg with their POVs.
As for blog2u, well, they were prolly busy with some other grand plans to take over the inter-web.

Internet Law in Singapore is an extremely tricky one. Even their most detailed Internet related law set in place, the Spam Control Act, is as grey as grandma’s last remaining hair strands.

What local digital practitioners are waiting for, is the first doctrine of precedence to take place by means of an Internet-based criminal case.

Then we will know the Law, loh.

Not sure if it’s the same online football betting company that you’re referring to here, but if you are, looks like it’s gone bust.

    Hey Cowboy,

What I meant was the other comment - the one where I mentioned that your favourite ad network, Nuffnang, was also serving gambling ads in the past.

Which also mentioned that since you don’t seem to be serving any paying Nuffnang ads for the past few weeks, you’re welcome to try Advertlets la :)

I don’t expect this comment to go through either…
