I Saw Brutal Chinese Police In Akshyun

Last night, I had dinner on a restaurant located on the second floor of a building. My table was next to the window and I was watching life go by while I munched on my pasta.

Suddenly, 2 young men in t-shirts were accosted by police in uniform who accused them of being thieves. The police then proceeded with a variety of violent actions such as kicking them in the stomach, punching them, hitting them with batons and kicking them while they were down. The 2 young men kept screaming that they had done nothing wrong. Pretty soon, another larger group of policemen arrived and they joined in the kick-the-dude fracas.

Passersby gathered to watch but nobody did anything. Feeling rather shaken, I gulped down another beer and went back to my hotel.

The next day, I spoke to a few local people. Their responses, surprised me.

  1. My hotel manager - “The police should beat up more people. Everyday!”
  2. One of my staff - “Alright, the police are doing their job”
  3. Another one of my staff - “If the police think somebody is a thief, they must be a thief”

Conclusion: the merry folk of China have full faith in their police force. If brutality is used, there must be a pretty good reason behind it!

Oh lawdy!

DO NOT even think of snapping or filming such acts. There have been a number of cases when bystanders were roughed up by the cops for doing that.
