Why The Malaysian Speed Camera Project Will Never Work
1,500 speed cameras to watch M’sian roads. By early next year, speed trap cameras will be placed at the accident-prone areas throughout Malaysia, and will be operational round-the-clock.Police plan year-round surveillance and $130 on-the-spot fine
If you haven’t already read about it, Malaysia plans to install 1,500 speed cameras to watch the roads. This is supposed to help them catch errant drivers and reduce the total number of accidents.
This Cowboy predicts an utter and massive failure, not to mention a waste of taxpayer money.
Allow me to explain.
The traffic police conduct regular roadblocks whenever they are broke. At these roadblocks, they extort money in the form of bribes from helpless Malaysians and Singaporeans. It doesn’t really matter if you were speeding, of if you were not because you’ll have to cough up RM50 anyway.
With these cameras in place, the traffic police will now have no excuses to conduct their roadblocks. I predict that the cameras will breakdown from vandalism and lack of maintenance with nobody bothering to repair them.
Malaysia boleh!
