Once A Boss, Always A Boss
The rain gushed down today like a torrent of bile from a sea-sick deity. Traffic was awful, and after about 10 minutes of waiting in a jam that wasn’t moving, I decided to high tail it to a cafe for some breakfast and attempt to navigate to the office later.
At the cafe, I examined the Louisiana-French styled windows and wondered why on earth the shop declared that it sold old-style Malaysian coffee. The service was bad, and the coffee was even worse.
Suddenly my Blackberry rang with a Canadian number being displayed. Fearing for the worst because I know my corporate masters in Toronto are none too please with my easiertoaskforforgivenessthanpermission style, I took the call and said “Hello”.
A very warm “Hellloooooooooo” emanated from the other side of the world. My ex-boss had just returned from Paris to Canada, was driving home and heard a song on the radio that reminded him of me, so he called me. We had a quick chat and caught up on what was going on.
To make a long story short, I’m really glad that although he had moved on up in the world to a different company and larger role, he was still the same old unchanged caring person.
It’s amazing how although he is no longer my boss, I still tend to regard him as such and I still learn just by observing him. I know that after I’ve finished my stint at my current company and have moved on, I will do the same with my current people.
Once a boss, always a boss - I guess.
