Advertorial: Citi Clear Card

Citibank is now offering a the Citi Clear Card, a credit card with no minimum income requirement.
Eligibility criteria
- Tertiary students can apply
- Working adults can apply (there is no minimum income, but applicant should still be employed)
- Minimum age requirement is 21 years old (for non-students)
- Students above 18 years can apply, but they need parental/guardian consent
- Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident (so foxy China ladies and foreign construction workers need not try)
Application is simple, just log on to submit your details online and then follow-up with a signed copy of the form and supporting documents. The entire process should take less than 5 minutes.
Personally, I think the following features of the card are cool:
- 1-for-1 drinks at Velvet Underground and Winebar. I would have killed for this back when I was a tertiary student.
- Free and priority entry into Velvet Underground every night
- One-Touch Biometric Payment aka thumbprint scanning
- Online shopping (hello to all manner of hedonistic pursuits!)
Now before you fall on your knees and thank ye eldritch gods for this piece of good luck, realize that the most you can charge to this card is SGD500. And if you ‘forget’ to make the monthly payment, the card is blocked. Since there is no minimum income requirement, such measures ensure that nobody can bankrupt themselves (although it would be interesting to read about bankrupt tertiary students in the local papers, haha).
