Daddy’s Got A New Phone (Again).

My dad uses his mobile a lot more than me. Since he does sales, he’s always yakking away on his mobile especially when he is driving although he has a bluetooth headset (which he refuses to use claiming he can never remember to charge it).

Since he’s such a heavy user, I have to buy him at least one new phone every year. The last mobile I got him was a motorola candy phone during CNY last year. In fact, he changes phones more frequently than I do. Which is bad, because I get them for him.

So last week, he called me and says that his mobile won’t charge fully anymore so I went out and got him a Nokia 6300 for SGD368 at Best Denki (because the queue at Singtel was too long).

The irony here is that my dad doesn’t know how to use SMS, the phonecam, mp3/radio functions or anything else on the mobile. All he knows how to do is to make and receive phone calls.

So now he’s got a phone with bluetooth, 16 million colour display, 2M pixel camera, 135MB internal memory, radio, mp3, video and goodness knows what other useless feautures he will never ever use.

The only reason why I got it for him is because it’s slim enough to fit into his shirt pocket and has large numbers displayed when you punch numbers in.

Old people always have shirt pockets and bad eyesight.

Talk about feature overkill…

Unfortunately this applies to many in their generation. I have to put my niece’s photo as the wallpaper for my dad’s phone so he can see his granddaughter just by opening his flip phone.
I can forget about teaching him how to retrieve it from the image gallery on the phone.

Same requirements as my dad. And the buttons can’t be too small.

stray > Heh you got an old man a flip phone?

LMD > the Nokia 6300 has nice big buttons. Maybe you can consider.
