There is no hope for the human race when a TV station says it will go ahead with a programme in which a terminally ill woman selects one of three patients to receive her kidneys. (via). Update: agentX has more information on this programme.

I have just finished watching this show in the Netherlands, despite all the efforts made to stop it.

The donor-soon-to-be-dead woman chose 3 candidates out of 25, and asked them question about their political preference, social life in general and etc. The public can then, sms to give the donor a choice to decide who can she her one kidney to, and another one after she dies.

It’s bizarre, yes, but I think it has put a face to thousands of people who are waiting for kidneys all over the world, and it has raised this issue to a much greater heights. After all, it’s a personal choice and the Dutch government respects personal freedom and not being a nanny-state - which is sadly ours.
