Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Are My Holy Grail

On Saturday there were a few hours to burn before my flight back to Singapore so I checked my luggage into the in-town check-in counters at Kowloon Station in Hong Kong. After that, I bought a subway ticket and went to Causeway Bay to see if I could find some knick knacks to purchase.

When I arrived at Causeway Bay, I alighted and sloped towards the stores at Times Square.

Actually I made my way to the basement of Times Square where I knew there were restaurants because all I had to eat all day was bread & butter with some scrambled eggs. It was in the basement of Times Square where I had to blink several times before my astonished eyes dared to finally realize that I had found a Krispy Kreme store.

Here are some stupid facts about me. Krispy Kreme doughnuts are not available in Singapore or Malaysia! but for the longest time, I have been hearing good stories about Krispy Kreme doughnuts. I have read mouth-watering stories about them. I have heard horribly tantalizing tales by Packrat and Ondine about how they loved them so much, they were willing to handcarry several boxes from from Melbourne to Singapore by plane. When my wife went to the USA for a month-long business trip, the only thing I asked her to buy for me were Krispy Kreme doughnuts (she forgot in the end).

In short, it has been a lifelong ambition of mine to taste a krispy kreme glazed doughtnut before I die.

My moist eyes quivered as I ordered my first original glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut. It was incredibly good! The doughnut was sweet, hot and melted in my mouth. It tasted exactly as I had imagined it would and perhaps even better.

Because I knew I was going to attend Ruok’s birthday bash at Wala Wala’s that same night after I got back to Singapore, I decided to order some doughnuts and handcarry them back to Singapore (Shortly after I purchased them, I called Ruok who informed me that he didn’t like sweet things so I bought him a rare Japanese cult film DVD instead).

I got 1 dozen original glazed and 1 dozen mixed assortments which came in 2 boxes. As soon as I got home, I shared them with my family. My 7 year old niece was so fascinated with them that she wolfed down 2 doughnuts immediately and proceeded to decimate another 3 in the morning. Everybody agrees that they really are something else.

Is anybody reading this out there? We really need a Krispy Kreme store in Singapore. Fast!!!

We have Krispy Kreme in Buffalo and all the Singaporeans who go back to Singapore often pack them in ziplocks and tupperware as if they were trafficking drug. From what I’ve heard, there is nothing like Krispy Kreme out there, but the best way to eat it is to get the Original Glaze and have it while it’s still hot. This way the donut orgasmically melts in your mouth. Just wait for facial expressions when you present your friends some.

Believe it or not, a KK donut fresh from the machine is infinitely better still. KK donuts that have been sitting out invariably develop that cloying, greasy aftertaste, presumably from all the congealed trans fats. But fresh donuts, omg…

Over here in USA I tend to only get free samples when the “fresh off the oven” lights are on. Cheapskate I know!

Hi hi,

Yes, I love KKD… So much so that I bought their shares.. Buahaha.. too bad that doesn’t entitle me to any free doughnuts…

Unfortunately, to start a KKD franchise, need this :

Did I tell you I do not have million dollars and the experience ?

And, nearer to Singapore, I found cheap original KKD :

Saying hello to everyone from Canada. Singapore is my favourite location to visit for business and certainly lots of pleasure. I feel so welcome and at home when in Singapore and am very sad when I have to go home. I hope to be back real soon to meet back with Cowboy Caleb and his friends (or does he really have any friends!?). If anyone wants to know something about Canada, ask away! BYE….

Well I’ve just tried my first Krispy Kreme Donut and frankly I’ll never go there again. Yuk.

I love donuts so at the urging of my son, we walked into a recently opened store here in Canberra. The place was deserted, with two bored and surly staff behind the counter. Although there was very little variety to choose from, I ordered three donuts. Cost A$5.25, twice the price of the stores we normally go to. Got home to find only two donuts in the bag. So I was charged A$5.25 for what would cost A$1.90 elsewhere.

My son’s donut was OK, nothing special, but mine tasted awful - half cooked and really yeasty. I’m off to make myself a cup of coffee to take the taste away.

I really can’t understand what all the hype is about.
