Rocket Science And DIY Investing

I don’t believe in banks, financial planners or insurance agents. Anybody that makes money off me regardless of what happens does not have my best interests at heart. I believe in common sense, much of which has to be developed through self-study and DIY methods which can be learned if an experienced person is willing to explain and teach.
The quote above is from a post entitled “Let Us Worship: DrMoney (Larry Haverkamp)” written 2 years ago. Since then, my portfolio has swelled and bulged thanks to the solid advice of Larry Haverkamp.
Note that I am not an expert investor. I know some stuff but not enough to quit my day job for. I know enough to realize that unless I am armed with enough information, I will retire behind a counter at MacDonalds.
I know enough to realize that buying an ETF gives me the diversity required to weather another economic recession.
I also know enough not to panic when the markets plunge (I start buying at steep discounts!) and not to sell when markets soar (I hold on for the long term).
My portfolio of my CPF investments is as above. If I continue to get returns that one quarter of the returns you see up there, I will still be able to retire very comfortably on schedule.
So this is my retirement plan update - how’s yours doing?
You’d probably want to start reading up on Larry’s advice. After all, investing is not rocket science.
