Getting to this restaurant is tough. First of all, it’s at the top of Mount Emily. I didn’t even know Mount Emily had anything at the top. Secondly, there’s no parking and we had to park at the side of the very narrow road outside the Hangout@Mt Emily.
Opened by a lawyer-turned-chef, this restaurant is supposed to have a hip & happening clientle with delightful fusion food. The food isn’t very expensive. Appetizers range from 8 - 11 bucks, mains from 16 - 32 bucks and deserts range from 8 - 10 bucks. You’ll find cleverly named dishes like duck leg confit, plum mustard & yam cake ($26.80) which most of my gang had and the grilled rack of lamb in garam masala marinade ($32.00) which Duckhawk had. I felt like it was pasta night so I went for the boring crabmeat linguini with chili tomato cream ($18.80)
I felt disappointed with my meal. The serving was too small for a growing boy like myself. And I know Duckhawk and Urbanmalebitch would probably be having an early supper as well because their duck was miniscule. The taste and texture of the food was underwhelming as well.
For desert, we had the dark lava chocolate gateau with flambé banana ($10.00) which of course was a cleverly named chocolate filled cake and fried bananas. I ate it all in 2 mouthfuls.
As I went home that night, I couldn’t help but regret not going to Deli France for a similar meal at cheaper prices.
Verdict
Food: 3/5
Ambience:3/5
Service: 3/5
Comments: If you’ve got a date or a business discussion, where you won’t really be focusing on the food - then come here. If you’re out for a good meal, forget it.
