  • Call Me Stupid

Last month, I was asked if I could go to Udon Thani and Vientienne to do a travel article. Due to various work commitments, the timing was plain bad and I replied in the negative.

That was really stupid in hindsight. Everybody in my office is leaving or has just returned from a vacation. They don’t seem to give a shit that their projects are either stalled, in trouble or behind schedule.

I wonder why I care? Why I cared enough to turn down a free holiday to an exciting destination where I know I would have had a life-changing experience. Why I bother to do such stupid shit when others do not.

I do not even dare to stay more than 2 days away from the office and even when I do, my mobile remains contactable at all times – I even travel with my laptop. Other folk don’t switch on their mobile and leave their laptops in the office – declining to accept any form of communication from the office in the event that a disaster strikes.

I can’t make up my mind if I’m dedicated or if I’m an idiot. It’s really depressing.

Conscience is a difficult and frustrating thing to live with. If you decide to have a heart, there are consequences, just as being otherwise. Much depends on what kind of person you want to be, right? Hang in there. There are many like you out there.

agree with naeboo totally. I’m in the same situation as you.

But, if you had accepted the invitation, and there is a last minute emergency meeting that clashes with your trip, you would be super stressed, since you are obligated by your sponsor to go on the vacation.

Everybody need to have a break for a better life tomorrow. If you think you need to have a break now, it’s because you want to escape yourself from the fact that everybody on vacation where you don’t. But think twice, who’s that you are comparing with? A responsible co-worker? or a stupid irresponsible co-worker?

What a stupid guy you are to turn down a free holiday treat!! By the way, to make your stupid decision even stupid enough … “Do you meet your work commitments by this sacrification?”

You’re an idiot. Real dedication and conscience isn’t measured by how late you stay at work or how many holidays you sacrifice.

Duah me for dinner again and you’re not just an idiot but a dead one.

I have to agree with JF on this
    You ARE an dedicated idiot.
But I’m afraid there is no cure for that.
    You can
    1) choose to walk away.
But it is going to happen again in othe companies.
Coz most ppl are idiot (the dun care if other ppl die type), and you are not (at least not that kind)

    2) choose to join whom you can’t beat
but you will either end up hating yourselves and go back to your old ways
    or
go back to your old ways before you start hating yourselves

problem is, he cannot really walk away, muhahahaha

but yes, true dedication is not measured by the amount of time you spend at work. There are times when no matter how much you put in nothing is going to change, work smart, not work like an idiot.
