Thai Fish Laksa

The shop was off the road somewhere in Laem Chabang, Thailand. It really didn’t look like anything special, but apparently it was really popular.

The shop looked more like a little tarzan hut, with wooden tables and benches.

First, we collected the laksa gravy from the huge urns at the side of the shop. There were 3 urns, each with a different flavour. The gravy is made from crushed fish. So there’s normal gravy, gravy with coconut milk and finally sweet gravy.

Then we get some greens from the ’salad bar’ in the middle of the shop which consists mainly of raw garden variety vegatables like bean sprouts.

Following that, we get the side dishes are that meant to be eaten together with the meal. These include hard-boiled eggs, fish balls and chicken feet. The most special item is the noodles, which are white and come in bunched-up balls. These are made fresh.

This is the complete meal. Thai people in the north eat this as one of their regular meals everyday. To eat, we scoop some gravy and pour it over a ball of noodles. It was really pretty good, not too spicy or rich.
We only got charged for the noodles and side-dishes, everything else was FOC. Luckily one of the locals brought me here, else I would never have had the guts to try it alone.
