Movie Review: Walk The Line

My father has always been interested in Hard Rock, Reggae and interestingly… country music. From what I understand, all them crazy cats growing up in the 70’s were all like that. So growing up, I was subject to a lot of bad country music which may explain my hatred for Kenny Rogers - the same hairy dude that sells a lot of roast chicken.

Anyway, I picked up this pirated DVD in China called Walk The Line (damn the pirated DVD’s in China really look like the real stuff from the packaging down to the weight of the disc) about the life and times of Johnny ‘The Man In Black’ Cash.

In case you don’t know who he is, well Johnny Cash is one of the most well known country singers evar. I kinda dig his songs. This movie stars Joaqim Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon and they both do a splendid job of covering a whole bunch of songs in their own voice.

My peeve with this movie is that instead of being called ‘Walk The Line’, it should actually be entitled “Johnny Cash and June Carter’s adulterous but ultimately romantic and entertaining courtship while being surrounded by drugs and money’.

rating: 3 out of 5 stars
