Little Shop Of Horrors
Last weekend, my sister-in-law needed to go to the market with her mother-in-law and I drove them out. The interesting thing about this outing was the fact that we visited an illegal butcher.

Here is the exterior of the shop. There isn’t a signboard or anything that could possibly betray what’s going on inside. Even the shutters are closed with only a little gap to let people in.

Upon entering the door, another partition hides what’s actually inside. I can’t read Chinese so I have no idea what that notice says.

Behind the partition is a long queue of people lining up for fresh meat at the back of the shop. The butcher here has really good meat, and is skilled at slicing it up.
Apparently due to racist policies and corruption in the City Council, this butcher was unable to obtain a license (short of paying a huge bribe). So he decided to rent a shop lot and just run it without too much fanfare (or a license).
[disclaimer: this is what I heard from a nosy customer]
