And Here Is The Homosexual News

I have received several emails asking why I have forsaken Singapore and moved to Malaysia.
Here is a detailed explanation. My wife is working there. Until I find her a new job in Singapore, I’d rather stay as close to her as possible. My current job makes it possible for me to be based anywhere in the world they have an office (depending on if I can find a free desk there) so I can be anywhere I like. Additionally, I have a project in Malaysia to complete at the moment. I actually spend very little time at home with my wife and am usually zipping about the more remote parts of Malaysia.
It’s not like I really love it here or anything you know. Apart from the awesome cheap food, the things that I have to put up with span from bad service, shitty roads, corrupted policemen and non-existent infrastructure. But if I turn a blind eye to all that, life here is pretty good.
Oh, and I don’t have broadband (or even dialup) here, so I can’t update my blog except when I’m at work (wurk = no time to blog).
Here is a list of things that indicate you’ve been away from Singapore (or been in Malaysia) for far too long .
- You think everything is cheap because you divide the price by 2.27
- You know what time the garbage trucks arrive at night
- You stop dry-cleaning because you actually have a garden to sun your clothes now
- You drive like an asshat because if you get pulled over, RM50 should get you off the hook for murder
- There’s actually more then one newspaper for you to read in the mornings.
- Out of all the people you speak to, 80% have only completed secondary school, 10% have degrees and the other 10% require sign language to complete phrases.
- You don’t have to make coffee for yourself in the office, there’s somebody that does it for you
- You wake up in the middle of the night because there was a noise from the living room - armed with a bat and a sword.
- You know you can say/write anything you like about the government, and there’s no knock on your door at night.
But seriously, the things I miss most about Singapore are my friends. All of you. I miss the lazy nightly roti prata and tea sessions, the weekend parties, the Thurday night Wala Wala bashes.
I’m coming home soon, ok?
