Deliver Me From Third World Companies Masquerading As MNC’s.
Now that I’m living in Malaysia again, the joy of having to put up with bizarre and innane business procedures becomes once again part and parcel of my life. My current humble abode doesnt have an internet connection, so I set off to register for one.
The place to register was amazingly grand – marble floors and LCD displays abound. However, here was the conversation that transpired:
Me: I would like to sign up for a broadband package
Her: Plisss gift me yorh eggdress n phonkk nambar.
Me: Ok
Her: Eye am sorri. Yor phonkk nambar is underr maxis (a private phone company)
Me: WTF. So I can’t get broadband? Even though I have a phone line?
Her: No… sorri…but yoo kan signup four wayarless broadbank, RM99/month
Me: Whatever, where do I sign and how soon can I have my wireless broadband?
Her: Kennot. Yoo kan ongly signup ongline.
Me: But you have the form here right in front of me?! Why do I need to sign up online?
Her: Kennot… dis iss our bizness polycee.
Later that night, I went and visited the homepage of a certain company professing to offer wireless broadband… and this is what I found. If they can’t run a website, how on earth will their wireless service be….?
