More Turkish Delight Plisss…

Based on a glowing food review of Alaturka, Tym dragged a whole bunch of us down to savor their fare. Located on the very bohemian (bohemian = charming but not romantic) Bussorah Street, we basically ordered everything recommended by the review except the deserts because we were too full.
I’m hoping Tym better known as missus-don’t-tell-me-what-to-do-I-will-write-whatever-whenever-if-I-feel-like-it would write a review since she was the only one with a camera and the place was her discovery. But here is my little take.
We had a good laugh at the menu. It was written in Turkglish and was full of hilarious spelling mistakes and strange sentence structures (Ftiddle roast chicken anyone?). But the food was awesome. We started with some turkish bread and humus. It was so good, we ordered more bread and some chilli-fied humus. Best humus in town, I tell ya.
The main courses were out of this world. I had the Et Sote (it’s in the review) which was a cross between lasagna and claypot tofu. The aroma was tantalizing and the taste was even better.
My only gripes:
- Waiter forgot that my Et Sote came with pilaf rice. Wtf? You forgot???
- The tiles on the walls inside are horrible. I nearly went blind viewing them.
- The cutlery was not ergonomic. My CTS stricken wrists hurt really bad after dinner.
Here are its redeeming points
- Average price per person: 20 bucks
- Food is served pretty fast
- Food is awesome. Best Turkish I’ve had in Singapore so far
- If you’re bored, you can read the menu and have a good laugh
Verdict: Highly recommended. There is another restaurant nearby which looks really nice from the outside called Samar (Yemenese food). Stay away from it and go to Alaturka instead. The staff at Samar excel at the art of ignoring you, pretend they don’t speak english and the food is overpriced airplane dinners.
