Who is dotBen? All day yesterday you’ve been an asshole to the people who’ve been in this town and I want to know why don’t you, why, what the fuck?

At Les Blogs 2.0, the largest European blogging convention (partipants pay 200 euros), they had this backchannel like Bloggers.SG 2005. A backchannel is basically like an IRC chat window, except that it’s displayed on huge screens all over the conference and acts like a backdrop to the speaker’s who are talking.

So when Meena Trots (president and co-founder of Six Apart, the company that builds that Movable Type thingy which mrbrown swears by) starts her talk, she notices that this dotben guy is being a real asshat in the backchannel.

What happens is she singles him out and lashes out. The guy’s name is Bob Ben Metcalfe. Well done Bob Ben. You be femes now!

I think the reason why this has gotten such a buzz is because Mena was expounding to the audiance that the bloggers should treat each other with more kindness. dotBenBob’s objection was projected on the big screen and Mena became incensed and called him an AssHat. It just drips with irony. Can I have my 2.5 cents now?
