It’s Cool To Love Your Family

The photo above is my cousin, whom I have not seen in a year because she lives in Holland. By this time, she should be at least a foot taller and a lot prettier. I miss her dad too, he’s one of my favourite uncles.

I think as we grow older, we begin to realize how important family is in our life.

With the demise of my grandmother, my family is now uncertain how to spend our holidays. It used to be taken for granted that we would gather wherever she was. Now that she’s gone, we have no idea where to go. On Saturday, we celebrated the birthday of another one of my younger cousins. With so many of us gathered in one place, we took the chance to try and organize our Christmas celebrations this year.

Nobody would make a decision. Nobody would lead. The hierarchy in my family is rather unclear. After much fussing, yelling, currypuffs, sandwiches and coca-cola, we came to the decision to celebrate Xmas eve in a cafe before proceeding to church for midnight mass. Christmas day would be spent at the club, and then off to my aunt’s place to open our presents.

I think we all realize how important it is to keep gathering as a family, especially on festive occasions. It just isn’t the same if you stay at home on those special days. They’ve made me promise to host lavish Xmas parties at my apartment when it’s ready next year.

I’m not close to my relatives, neither do he is to his. We do love our immediate families, but sometimes we just want to indulge in our newly wedded bliss for a while leh. :P
