Move Over Jack Neo, Here’s The Next Generation

So I went for the party to celebrate Nicholas and Randy’s award winning short film, “I’ll Live A Day For You” after being invited. It was at a pretty cool photo studio at Joo Chiat Place. I was mooching around at the back looking at some photo-portraits, when I suddenly realized that one of them was Lim Yu Beng, only to be informed later by Tym that he lived next door.
The film was screened at high-rez with a projector. Seeing it blown up really enhanced the experience. But the best part was watching the outtakes, which were not only hilarious - it made me realize what a pain in the ass it was to make a short film. All the effort and patience required is extremely taxing.
Note: The official website has been updated with the outtakes and stills for your viewing pleasure.
Nicholas plans to feature his hero - the road sweeper in his next film. He identifies with this anti-hero because as children we were all told that if we didn’t study hard, we would grow up to be useless road sweepers. He and Randy have already begun planning their next film - a slightly longer one that will deal with issues close to our hearts. It will be a serious film and I look forward to it.

Also present was another local filmmaker - Yee Wei, who also happens to be an avid blogger. I had the pleasure of being introduced to him and his team. They won the Judges Pick award at the Fly By Night Challenge for their short film entitled ‘Loser’, an tragi-comedy of epic proportions.

Yee Wei also shot another short film entitled ‘Lau Sai’ (translation: The Squats), which I think is the most uncomfortable thing I have evar watched while laughing at the same time. The film pokes fun at the Sammyboy culture and freelance whore phenomenon. You can practically smell the reek wafting out of the screen as the two protagonists communicate while taking a dump.
