You see scenes of destruction, mayhem, tragedies…. but do you understand why?

You may see the faces of terrorists…. but do you know what causes drive them?

Sometimes after work, I visit the library at Bras Basah to read comics. Yes, stop laughing. I sometimes descend to the level of the hoi polloi who enjoy shite like The Swamp Thing and Astro City. Of course, I depart from the library armed with books that are beyond the reading comprehension of the likes of you. Books by illuminated authors like Chekov and Richard Scarry.

Today, I noted with great interest that there was a very interesting exhibition being held titled The Changing Face Of Terrorism. Excellent photos of lunatics, their handiwork and text plastered all over the wall about their heinous activities. Most interesting of all was the fact that Che Guevara’s hallowed face, which adorns many a t-shirt, arm (as a tattoo) and wall was smack up there next to the jap loony from the Aum Doomsday cult. Isn’t that interesting - I always thought he was some folk hero.

    (beside Bugis Junction)
    Opening Hours: 10 am - 9 pm
    Admission: Free

Terrorist or freedom fighter, yah? very topical question now. The Motorcycle Diaries (ok, fine los diarios de motocicleta for the purists) is a really good film to watch re che guevara and of course Gael Garcia Bernal, only the sexiest non-gay-looking-gay-guy alive is in it.

Che a terrorist? Com’on guys, think a little. The man was an idealist, and followed through on his beliefs with a determination that is rarely seen. He denounced terrorism as a weapon of the revolution (read his work). You’re obviously free to disagree with his philosophies, but he never believed in killing the innocent (terrorism). People died, yes, but they also die from massive corporate lay-offs, no? Every system, inherently, has a downside. Left or right, we have not yet found any system that provides some sort of equilibrium, meaning people are dying unecessarily. Che was a soldier, a poet, a statesman, a killer, a dreamer and many other things… but he was not a terrorist. Read up on him before accepting the views of others as being true. Until then, hold off on the judgements.
