Now Thou Art Confirmed Liao

Today the entire family rose at 7.30am - half an hour late. After a mad rush, we were in the car on the way to church.

For every Roman Catholic boy and girl, the Sacrament of Confirmation is the final gift they receive before they become full members of the church as adults. It is only bestowed after years and years of Cathecism classes on weekends therefore everybody (I know that I did) looks forward to it for it spells the end of Cathecism classes on weekends.

I struggled to stay awake. The mass switched back and forth between English and Mandarin. As the rites were being performed, I jostled with other parents and elder siblings for a good spot by the altar to snap a photo of the priest laying his hands on my brother’s head.

Words cannot describe how proud I am of my brother. Despite being brought up in a half-heartedly Catholic family, swayed by the influences of Marilyn Manson and living a great distance away from the church, he managed to attend all his classes without fail to reach this day.

looks like holy cross church? yeah cathecism was a right bore for just about everyone, kinda like a ritual every catholic teenager had to endure before becoming a ‘real’ member of the church.

so there we were, ignoring the teach while we expound on the lyrical merits of the latest bootleg public enemy tape we managed to snare from god-knows-where. still remember the lians, goths and butches that made up my batch, haha good times. :P
