Movie Reviews: Ghost World

Imagine you’re a jewish girl with big tits, bad fashion sense, can’t fit in with the popular crowd at school and worst of all, you’re the sharpest tool in the shed. That pretty much sums up Ghost World which by the way opens up with a 1960’s Bollywood musical dance jitterbug sequence.

This is Enid (Thora Birch). She has serious issues with her life because she’s constantly screwing her life up, not to mention the lives of people around her. You can tell she’s messed up because of the mask she forced Seymour (Steve Buscemi) to purchase for her at a adult store which she hauled his ass into when all poor Seymour wants to do is hide in his room and admire his 78 rpm records.

This movie is deep. It involves you and requires your utmost attention while attending to it. In it, you will witness a young Scarlett Johansson transform into a Starbucks employee. Just wait till you discover the movie was based on a comic book.

So if you’ve nothing to do tonight, why not pop by the nearest DVD rental shop and get a copy of this? I want you to taste what I taste.

I absolutely love this movie…I’d watch it again just to see Enid jig to “Jaan Pehechaan Ho”

See also Bollywood for the Skeptical

Be like Madvillain, Dan the Automator, Avalanches and Kate Winslet’s character in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind! Get more like that sweet tune from the beginning of Ghost World! Listen to this mix! It will make you twice as cool as you are now.

Loved the movie :), I absolutely adored Steve Buscemi. He wasn’t the best looking actor around but boy, he was so so captivating!

I unequivocally agree that this is a great movie. It’s one of those coming of age films, where the narrator sees all sorts of things, goes through life, and in a magical last scene, uh, I shouldn’t say what happens then, but it’s magical all right, one of the greatest movie endings ever.

To all those readers out there I have a copy of the DVD (widescreen, region 1) at home and for S$20 it’s yours. Pls drop me a mail to order it. Those living outside Singapore might have to pay more for delivery. Thanks.
