Being poor is knowing exactly how much everything costs.

Just to put the article into context, John Scalzi wrote it in light of the recent disaster involving Katrina and New Orleans. Just about everyone who didn’t evacuate the city in time could be grouped into two categories:

1. Too poor to move
2. Too sick to move
