Amazing Doesn’t Even Begin To Describe It

Today has been a very strange day.
Once upon a time, there was a boy who went for a church camp at the age of 10 in a distant town away from home and discovered what a crush was when he befriended the most beautiful young girl. Nothing can stand in the way of an idiot boy in love, so he would write the most outrageous letters to her. Of course long-distance correspondance ultimately ends in tears (the intarweb not being commonplace back then) and so he learned a little of how life could kick you in the nuts if you allowed it to.
Fast forward to 2005. La Idler and I are mooching at a Starbucks. Actually we had originally been at another Starbucks across the road because it was Caffeine Lunch Day, and we had consumed some droogs there earlier; thus we were forced to look for a fresh pusher for more fixes. Yes, and so there we were at Starbucks having our second shot of droogs for the day when this woman-child strides in through the door and dons a Starbucks uniform.
It was her. Yet it couldn’t be. How could it be her? She hadn’t changed a bit. It was like a mature version of the 10 year old girl I knew back then. It was her eyes, the same impossibly large eyes with limpid pools of brown and auburn that triggered a flurry of memories.
Later, we asked to taste the mooncakes, and she spoke to us briefly. The shocker came when she introduced herself - her name was the same.
It was her.
What are the chances? I haven’t seen her in 17 years and now I bump into her again at Starbucks. Of course, I don’t want anything - my life is great the way it is. I’m just grateful at how the world is smaller then we think it is.
I’m glad to see her again.
