Another Earthquake Hits Northern Sumatra

It’s not in the news yet - but another earthquake measuring 8.2 on the richter scale has just hit Northern Sumatra, Indonesia CNN Reports: Earthquake measuring 8.2 reported off coast of Indonesia on same fault line as quake that caused December’s deadly tsunami. Details soon.

I was sitting at my desk at around 12.15am when I suddenly felt a swaying sensation. At first I thought it I was feeling giddy and had a headache or something. But then I noticed that everything seemed to be swaying. Then I heard my landlord yelling that the building was shaking.

I immediately grabbed my knapsack which usually contains my essential stuff (passport, bank books etc) and threw in some underwear, jackets etc. Then I put on a pair of denim jeans and ran for dear life to the lift. When I got downstairs, there were families dressed in their PJ’s looking scared and confused.

Everybody didn’t know what had happened or what to do next - but we were all sure that another earthquake had hit Indonesia, probably somewhere close to Singapore.

I have never been so scared in my life. The whole room was swaying. A guy downstairs said he felt the same thing but he lived on the 4th floor and I live > 10th floor. The past few earthquakes were just sudden shuders, but this one went on and on.

mr brown didnt feel it, but he’s faster then CNN to publish the news.

ChannelnewsAsia: Earthquake measuring 8.5 rocks Indian Ocean
MSNBC: Magnitude is nearly as large as tsunami quake
BBC: Huge quake hits Indonesian coast

Hot damn. Hopefully this time the authorities in the affected regions err on the side of caution and issue the evacuation warnings before more people get killed.

There’s no need to run out of your pidgeon holes. Go stand under the main door if its a very strong quake. It’s the strongest part of the flat. It’s probably more dangerous standing at the void deck.

Sounds to me that its only a very short, slight tremor.

Mm Zai Si ah !!!! Still go for lift.

I felt slight tremours at Bt Panjang too. But not enough to warrant me running downstairs. I stay on 12th floor. Have been through a 2 real earthquakes in Taiwan before, thus I continued surfing the net throughout the tremours.

Actually, what is the point of the bomb shelter during times like this?

Gahment expect folks to hide out in those reinforced bomb shelters? ;-)
