So Many Blogs, So Little Time

Like the Idler, I am currently experiencing blogroll meltdown. There are so many blogs to read and so little time to do it. I have no idea how to cope with the traffic anymore short of connecting the computer to my brain ala ‘The Matrix’.

You may have noticed that I’ve removed all links from my sidebar. Using the new ‘page’ feature in Wordpress and the blogroll feature in Bloglines, I have placed all my links to other blogs and websites in one consolidated page.

The number of sites I track is quite massive. And I read each and everyone of them when they post new shite without fail. In the beginning, I posted comments on most of their articles. But these days, I find that I just lack the time to do so anymore. I read the stuff you write, but I won’t post comments unless

  1. You wrote something very enlightening
  2. You wrote something disgustingly stupid
  3. You’re on the verge of suicide
  4. I happen to be on my coffee break

So yes, I am reading your blog. Without fail. Everyday. But sometimes no time lah. I hope you understand. My workload is now mounting again and I have less and less time to surf during the day.

But I really do reading your comments on my blog, they are the high points of my day. So keep them coming ok?

P.S: If your blog is not on my list, please let me know and I’ll add it. Contact me via email.

It’s quite a bit of work catching up with what goes on in the blogosphere… adding comments to blog brings this to another level of tediousness. However, I think it is a social responsibility to comment on blogs as it adds more credibility to important articles. That’s why I do it and I hope others will too. Granted we can’t possibly comment on everything, but make it a habit of say the 50-50… you blog twice daily, comment on other blogs twice daily. I think this would be a healthy way to go for the continual growth of our blogosphere.

I agree. I read almost that same amount of blogs too, and sometimes I can’t even finish reading them.

I’m sure bloglines is popular since it is free and easily accessible. As MrMiyagi (damn I love that name, sensei) said, one way to make sense of it all is to produce a smartfeed. Not sure if bloglines can do it, but it’s a feature in feedreading software like NewsFire. SmartFeed further aggregates and highlights your feeds for you based on things you like… e.g. Mac, porn, whatever. Fortunately, bloggers tend to reference each other for news so you can also tell what’s newsworthy based on what your favorite bloggers “copy” from one another! i.e. prioritize in order of your favorite bloggers so you can tell what’s good out there… e.g. BoingBoing.net

Zenith > Blogs that only post part of their post in the rss force you to go to their site to read the whole article. This is really irritating right?

Aneki > Hahaha I’m replyin now aren’t I?

Miyagi > fwah, I bet 80% are cute chick’s journos.

echa > yeah you can email me. And I don’t really have ideas. I have diarrhea of the brain.

fatfingers > hehehe weekends only ah? Hella lotta links!

i usually try to keep my sg blog list to around 50 (i still have many more non-sg blogs to follow). if the blog is consistently boring for too long, i’ll just unsubscribe. and i don’t usually comment unless i have something to say…

p.s. u don’t seem to have me on your list *hint*
