  • Local Short Films: “Tak Giu”

“Tak Giu” (15mins, Singlish/with English subtitles) is an indie film which follows the journey of 3 soccer-crazy boys. Having taking up the challenge of a friendly soccer match, the boys realize that it is not easy to find a good, free public soccer field in Singapore…..if there’s any at all. Through their journey they encounter obnoxious care-takers, locked-up fences, deterring weather and a persistent policeman. Will they be able to find their dream soccer pitch?

It’s time to support your local indie film industry. Especially when the film in question was written, directed, produced, sound/music and editing all by Jacen Tan. This dude is multi-talented right? He does it all on a shoe-string budget the most cost efficient way – DIY. But he gets results galore.

Visit the website to find out more about the short film and download it. Interestingly, Jacen also makes 2 songs from the soundtrack available for download.

Highly recommended. Jack Neo had better watch out for Jacen. His production quality is amazing. If you thought Royston Tan was good, well perhaps Jacen is the mature/sensible version of him. There’s no need to shock people to get the message across. Sometimes, all you need is a story that hits you where it hurts most – your own backyard.

    Go ahead and download it.

I am still trying to get my grimy paws on a copy of Royston Tan’s _Cut_.

Beginning to think that it is an urban legend that does not really exist..

I actually had the pleasure of meeting Royston Tan when he came to Chicago for the Singapore Film Festival thing. We compared notes and, man, his ah beng friends are seriously a lot like my ah beng friends. Perhaps this is because they’re all ah bengs. I’m so bloody perceptive. Awesome.

Anyway, quality work unearthing this gem. I’m going to do my part in spreading the word myself.

    Later.
