Never Assume

New Asia Bar

Yesterday while on the train heading back east to my home, my phone rings. I glance at it and see it’s my housemate. The dude never calls me unless the shit hits the fan. The last time he called me, the kitchen door got stuck. So I thought maybe this time the kitchen stove imploded or something.

Hey, you’re not home right

No, I’m on the train. Heading back now. Why?

Turn back dude. Join me for a beer.

Seriously?

Yeah, let’s have a drink.

Oh shit. Thoughts raced through my mind. This can’t be good. Something must have happened to require my companionship with liquor. I thought perhaps perhaps:

  • He got fired
  • He has severe work stress
  • He has girlfriend problems
  • He has money problems

We went up to the New Asia Bar at Marriot and ordered two Hoegaardens. Then we walked to the bar with a moat of crushed ice and waited for a table.

I want to show you something he says and promptly pulls out 10 grand in hundred dollar bills. out from his slacks. Man that was an awesome sight indeed. It was thick and juicy and smelt really good.

He wasnt in trouble. He just wanted to chill out with his windfall.

After drinking about 4 bottles of Hoegaarden each, we went for supper at Geylang. Then we went home. No hanky-panky. All respectable professionals, you know.

i guess it’s the TOTO too..

A typo error…NewAsiaBar is at WestinSwiss Hotel…not Marriot :)

Ya, Asia Bar. Nice view. Not really suitable for deep, thoughtful conversation. But hey, you are in a bar. Forget conversation.

Happy hours are 3pm - 9pm; beers and housepour are half-price, which means they’re pretty much what they would cost in any other normal bar.

I hear they used to have some ice kachang concoction involving four types of liqueur, but the last time I was there and asked about it, the waitress just looked at me funny.
