Let’s Get Retarded Racial

Darren recently had an interesting post that ultimately led me to read this rather brave post by a Malaysian blogger.

As I am sure I’ve mentioned several times before that I was a victim of Ultra Malay Racism in my youth, I shall spare you the details. It doesnt bother me anymore because after all it was a long time ago(Darren on the other hand isn’t so forgiving).

What’s interesting this time round is that Malay bloggers actually responded to that post by blogging how they felt about it and what it meant to be a stereotyped malay. And then non-malays jumped into the ring as well. How entertaining. The best bit is that nobody got neggressive but decided to share their experiences instead.

I think this blogging thing may be the best thing to happen to a multi-racial country like Malaysia. Better then Astro. Maybe even better then Milo.

Update
For the benefit of new readers:
1) I am Malaysian
2) Some of my best friends are Malay and Indian

i’ve heard this before from my malaysian chinese and malay friends and i’m sorry about your experience back then.

i could have accused the malays there of being lazy and spoilt while the chinese are opportunistic and ungrateful lot.

but i did not and will never judge or say anything emotional to their point of views, because, as cliche as it may sound, i don’t see myself as a race at all.

i choose to believe it that someday, we will all introduce ourselves as a Malaysian or Singaporean and how I wish that all Singaporeans are made to learn a single language (be it Malay, Mandarin or Tamil) years ago so that we can have a common communication among each other since our english is still left to be desired…maybe this will be achievable in my other life. Just like (almost) all Indonesians can speak Bahasa Indonesia.

peace.

ps: sorry for being long-winded cowboy…

agentX > I think the current generation think like you. So things are getting better. It’s very evident from their responses in their blogs that the times-they-are-a-changing.
