CNY 2005, Day One

Last year, my cousin died and my entire family had to rethink the way we did things. As a result, we decided that we would no longer hold the the CNY gatherings at my matriarch grandmother’s house (incidently the house that my late cousin lived at). That’s just so peranakan-passe, catch my drift?

Instead we drew lots to decide which house to hold the celebrations in. This would ensure that everybody got a chance to be a host and we could bond more as a family.

So this year we descended unto my cousin’s place. Each family forked out RM100 to pay for catered food. You can see in the pics above that we got some bloke to bbq satay(kebabs dipped in spicy peanut sauce) for us. We also got nasi beriani (saffron rice), ayam masak merah (roast chicken in spicy sauce), acar (pickled vege) and all kinds of other malaysian food.

Despite my throat infection, I tucked in anyway and now I have a raging fever and feel like shit. That’s the wages of gluttony, I guess.

After dinner, we went mad taking pictures in the garden and later indulged in gambling away all our red packet money. Is this not bliss?
