Would You Laugh At Me?

I’ve been thinking alot about getting a small little cheap car - a Kia Picanto. It’s a real bargain at only SGD43k. It doesn’t take guzzle much fuel because it’s only a 1000cc car and the road tax is dirt cheap at SGD283 bucks.

One thing that worries me is that people might laugh at me for being a cheap ass and getting such a wussy car. While I do admit that it is rather small and underpowered, when I think about all the money I could save then it appeals to me.

Of course I’d rather get a larger car like a WRX or a Audi A4, but I’ve got this funny feeling that there are bad times ahead. It’s time to go into austerity mode. Cannot anyhow spend money. I’ve got to save money. The monthly parking and cost of petrol is a killer. I’m not doing sales so I don’t need a flashy car to impress. That means this car would definitely not score any points with the babes and would probably earn their disdain instead.

It’s a cute car. If it’s good value-for-money deal…go for it. U can’t speed in Spore. So, it’s safer than in Msia.

And I honestly don’t care for what guys drive unless it’s one of those humungous Pick-ups or SUVs I see around here, I hate those and their drivers.

honestly i think the picanto is value for $$$, if you can find a color to suit your taste though. Road tax is cheap, petrol lagi cheaper, what more you want. Cannot speed good, don’t need to worry about white ants when you are on the road, if you kena caught can always ‘ah sir ah, you see i what car, you think can go 120 clicks meh?”

Chicks, well, are a different matter altogether. I don’t think most mind a small car as much as FF. haha

2nd hand Jap or Continental cars might be a better option. My friend just got a second hand 2 yr old tip top condition Megane for $43K too. You buy the Kia cheap, but after 3~4 years, maintenance from wear and tear will kill ya man. Korean cars are well known for that.

I’m definitely not wrong. He was so excited he got such a good bargain. He bargained with the dealer for damn long time. My friend’s colleague got a 2 1/2 yr old for $60+K.

err.. 1000cc.. can sit the lot of us or not? I recall Uncle Low’s 1000cc car trying to go up the carpark ramp with only 2 other passengers.. The passengers had to get out just so the car can go up.

I dunno about Kia though. I’ve heard sucky things about the car. How about the Nissan March?

One of my colleagues bought it - it’s quite a cute car. But not much powwer. But overall, a great bargain for a brand new car.

Hey, I am sure you did your maths & choose this option. Now, think about your commitment to this car. At 40k(plus interest) and monthly repayment, you might loose interest after 6 months because I know you. The second-hand value might now be that good for this car. Remember as far as Singapore is concern if you buy a new car, it must have a good second-hand value. I am afriad this one does not fit the bill, unless its a ten year commitment you are talking about. My advise don’t choose it. Save your money, afterall which woman can resist a loaded guy and get married first. Car will come when the time comes,

Hey sorry you. I checked wif my friend, the car was $49K. In a year or two, he definitely won’t lose money if he sells.

You should only buy a car if you have at least 20K to pay in downpayment and earn at least 5 times your instalment. Otherwise, plus interest and all, not very worth it. And you may starve every month cos all your moolah goes into the car.

That’s why I don’t have a car.

Of course he did. Perfect condition. Even the leather interior smelt new.

He even contacted previous owner. Owner was selling cos he upgraded to newer Megane. Once you own a Megane, I guess there’s no going back.

Besides, the car is still under warranty.
