Today my family visited a client of my dad’s for Hari Raya. He is an elderly Malay army major. When we got to his place for lunch, it turned out that the major’s wife used to be my brother’s ex-science teacher (she retired 3 months ago) and my brother freaked out. There was also an elderly scottish couple there with an accent so thick that I just nodded my head in response to anything they said to me.

The food was excellent. Apparently the major cooked the nasi beriani and all the other dishes himself the night before from 3am till dawn. Somehow, it tasted very different from the food they sell outside. It was raining very hard, so we were stuck at his place for about 3 hours.

When the rain finally relented, we had eaten too much and it was too late to visit any other malay friends. So we went to Jaya Jusco where I bought a new pair of shoes for work. Am especially pleased because I managed to get a decent pair of black dress shoes at 50% discount.

Darren is right about there being no festive spirit in Singapore. But I think it’s the same in any chinese territory. Where I live in Malaysia, nobody seems to give a flying fish either. Today seems like any other sunday.
