Ameri-can Idol, Indonesi-an Idol, Malaysi-an Idol

my chinese educated friend who does not have a good command of the English Language asked me

How come it’s Singapore Idol and not Singaporean Idol ah?

I must say, he’s spot on.

So what gives, Mr SpeakGoodEnglishCampaign? You miserable failure!

Singapore is trying hard to be unique and original, ie. what with the name and an extra judge (4 instead of 3).

An Italian, An Englishman, A Frenchman, but A Chinaman, not A Chineseman. The only rule worth knowing about the English language is that there are actually no rules.

Maybe because if it’s Singaporean Idol, only Singaporeans need apply, unfortunately, in Singapore Idol, you can be from Mars and still join. No kidding… Think of that Canadian bird that got eliminated. She’s not Singaporean.
