Cars Cars Cars

Today during lunchtime, I finally went down to the Ubi Driving Center to signup for the Basic Theory Test with a colleague. We are both malaysians and will be taking the test together so we can convert our driving licenses.

I should have a singapore driving license by this time next month, and will be able to finally buy a car. After booking an exam date, we headed to the car showrooms to look at cars.

2004 Honda Civic
First stop was Honda, where we were instructed in the mysteries of the VTEC engine by the friendly sales guy. I was interested in the Civic VTi which would cost me about 5k to drive off. Montly installments are 734 bucks.

Chevrolet Optra Chevrolet Aveo (1400cc)
Then next we headed over to Chevrolet where we inspected the Aveo and Optra models. The chevvy sales guy calculated for me how much I need to pay to drive off one of their cars. So let’s say I get the Optra, that means I have to pay upfront about 3.5k to drive off. The monthly instalments are about 700 bucks.

One major downer was the car insurance for a 26 yr old unmarried swinger like me would cost a hefty $2.2k. That’s a lot of money for insurance.

Wanted to view more cars, especially the Subaru Impreza, but had to go back to the office. So we will be going again on Monday.

eeehh, I have to take a theory test soon, too. I don’t think I am legally llowed to drive here, even though I got a slip of paper that says international driver’s license. but I feel too lazy to also worry about that kind of crap now.

aneki > I dont think you have to take the test. Your international german license is valid anywhere in the world.

powerpuff > yes you can. But you can only book for the larger driving centers. I went there to book the earlist possible test which was at the teeny queenstown center.

I think I will be in trouble when pulled over by a cop and they see I live here, am registered here, work here, but still have not taken a test…temporarily it is okay but driver’s license is one thing you eventually should have…I guess
