The Cold War
I have two colleagues who have been having a cold war for the longest time. Both are professionals high-level architects of systems depending on under-funded budgets. This generates an immense amount of stress and tension.
Their personalities couldnt have been much different from an orange and an apple. She is goal-driven and efficient and he is laid-back but gets things done (in his own time). Put these two personality types together, and you have a recipe for disaster.
One particular project blew up in their face, which resulted in reprimands descending from ye gods aboveth. She pointed her fingers at him, and he did the same to her. Their team leader being a techie geek anal retentive asshole, refused to get involved and told them to ‘work things out’.
Things got really akward for the rest of us who shared the same floor as them. During lunch, we had to alternate who to lunch with because neither would come when the other was joining the lunch group. It was as if they refused to acknowledge each other’s existence.
Today is her last day at work.
It’s very sad because both are high intelligent and smart people. To have let things come to this stage is management’s fault entirely.
